(LEBANON, Ill., Sept. 12)—The McKendree College hockey team dropped a 15-1 decision Saturday afternoon at home against the University of Missouri. The game, which was the second meeting in as many days between the squads, was contested at the U.S. Ice Sports Complex in Fairview Heights.
The Bearcats avoided a shutout in the final two minutes of play when freshman wing Zach Evans (Columbia, Ill.) scored off an assist from junior wing Keith Jacob (Fairview Heights, Ill./Belleville East) (Fairview Heights, Ill.). The Tigers built a 4-0 lead after the opening period before cruising to a 10-0 cushion at the second intermission.
Missouri collected 53 shots on goal in the contest. Sophomore Matt Brandt (Waterloo, Illinois/) (Waterloo, Ill.) made 23 saves in the first 27 minutes of play. Freshman goaltender Mike Stier (Belleville, Illinois/) (Belleville, Ill.), who was making his Bearcat debut, followed up with 15 saves.
McKendree will return to the ice Friday with a home game against Illinois State University. Face-off is set for 8:30 p.m. in Fairview Heights.
